Learn how to decorate Christmas Cookies

Updated: Apr 1

Can you believe Christmas is only a few days away? It has gone so fast. I'm not sure about the rest of you, but every year at Christmas I bake a ton of cookies to give out as gifts. I try to make different ones every year. Some are successful and some...well, the other person doesn't know that isn't exactly the way they were supposed to turn out.

When we planned everything out earlier this year, I thought it would be fun to include a cookie-themed box for December. I should elaborate and say I thought it would be fun to make the theme decorating cooking with royal icing. You know, how they make it look so magical and fun in those Hallmark movies.

Honestly, it's not hard at all! We included everything you need to make some cookie masterpieces in your kitchen. Let's take a look at what came in the December box.

The goal was to make the box as easy to use as possible for someone who maybe doesn't bake much. We didn't want people to have to run to the store to buy things just to do this activity.

  1. Sugar Cookie Mix--Yes you don't even need a lot of ingredients to make your cookies. All you need is a stick of butter and an egg. Easy peasy! Just stir it up, refrigerate, and then roll, cut, and bake!

  2. Cookie Cutters--Some people don't have cookie cutters. We solved that problem and included 4 different cutters per box. Each person has different cutters to get those creative juices flowing.

  3. Royal Icing Mix--What?? You don't have to make royal icing from scratch. No my friend you do not! Just add some water, mix and magically you have royal icing! We didn't want any frustrations. The goal was to learn to use the icing and have fun decorating.

  4. Natural Food Color--We did two basic Christmas colors red and green. These powders are completely natural ways to color your icing. Most people have never tried the natural way and they will be pleasantly surprised with the outcome! Please feel free to use any type of color you have on hand though to make other colorings to go with your cutters.

  5. Sprinkles--We had to include the sprinkles because they are just a beautiful color and winter themed so you can use them for the whole season if you want to.

  6. Piping Bags--The last item is of course the piping bags and clips and bands. We chose to go basic with tip-less bags to make it easy for beginners. We included a tutorial sheet with videos that break down the process from filling the bags to techniques of piping. We made sure to include a lot of extra bags for mistakes and other colors.

Even though we planned and packed these boxes, every time I look at the picture of the box it makes me excited. It's such a fun box and looks fantastic. Don't overthink it, don't get upset if something doesn't come out exactly right. Have fun with it! Laugh at yourself! Do this with a friend and have a great time!
