Harnessing Nature-7 Surprising Uses For Beeswax You'll Love

Updated: Jun 5, 2023

There is a day in May that you may have never heard of. World Bee Day is recognized on May 20. To help get the word out and celebrate, we designed our subscription box around this special day. One of the items we put in the box was a DIY beeswax candle kit. It's a super easy project that you can make using scents you love and a vessel that suits your décor. There are so many other ways to use beeswax I thought I would talk about them.

Beeswax Food Wraps

Making your own beeswax wraps is so easy. All you need is fabric of your choice and some beeswax. They can be made to any size you need and can be used over and over again, which also helps the environment. They should last you a long time and in most cases can be re-waxed when the beeswax starts to break down. Learn how to make your own here.

Protect Wooden Cutting Boards and Spoons

Wooden utensils and boards in your kitchen need some love. Give them a moisturizing treatment with this recipe for making spoon butter. If you use cast iron pans, they need some attention as well and beeswax can be used to season your pans when needed. Learn how here.

Homemade Body Butter

In the cold winter months our skin can benefit from some added moisture. Making your own body butter is the perfect solution. It's easy to do and you can add your favorite scent with essential oils. These also make great gifts to give when you are out of ideas. Get started using this recipe.

Hard Lotion Bars

Lotions bars are all the rage now and they are easy to carry without the mess. You will be amazed at how easy they are to make and how versatile they are with the different sizes, scents, and designs you can use. Here is one of our favorite recipes. These make great gifts as well!

Beeswax Pinecone Fire Starters

If you are in a crafty mood, how about making some fire starters? They are easy and fun to make. They also make a great house warming gift for the person with a fireplace or fire pit in the back yard. Even your camping friends will love them. I love this recipe because it incorporates recycling in the project.

Beeswax Ornaments

If you are making candles, you may as well go ahead and make ornaments as well. You can add scent if you like such as pine or cinnamon essential oils. They are perfect for yourself around the holidays, or as gifts. All you need is the molds other than your beeswax. The best part is, if something goes wrong you can just re melt your wax and start over. Learn how to make them here.

Beeswax Solid Perfume

Ditch the toxic chemicals in commercial perfumes and make a safe alternative using beeswax. Follow this recipe or create your own scent using your favorite essential oils.

These are some good projects to get your mind turning. There are so many other uses I could go on for days. Just remember these are not set in stone recipes. Play around with your favorite scents. These projects are perfect for a relaxing evening, a lazy Sunday or a rainy day. Live in the moment and enjoy some quality time with yourself making one or all of these projects.
